Trying to find an old writing project, anyone remember it?

I remember reading a story some years ago - an online short writing project - that centred around the sudden appearance of a giant cylindrical roller many miles in diameter, slowly making its way across Europe and on track to flatten many European cities.

The story was told through a combination of typical third person story telling, faux news reports, and research documentation. No matter how much I search I just cannot remember the name of the project or author.

If anyone knows what I am talking about it would be very much appreciated.
