Newbie advice please

Hi. I’m 54 and never really played video games but would like to get into now, in particular to play with my kids, daughter is 10, son 7) who also haven’t. Any advice re games to play that are easy to get into, what console I should buy that won’t break the bank (not the best off sadly) and anything else worth knowing! Thanks very much 😊
