What's going on?

When I joined this community, everyone was saying to get pep and not pepe. Now there's posts about the possibility of pep being a scam? Weren't everyone saying that this could never be a scam? Why are people selling because an exchange got hacked? Aren't we supposed to keep it off exchanges, how does the hack play a role with the coin itself and leads to people selling? I am so confused
