What is the Legacy of Nightmare Alley?
Been a while since it's released, and I'm curious as to this subs thoughts on it. Despite some lukewarm reception, it ended up still making Picture. So as Del Toros first film since his Best Picture win, a surprise BP nominee and as a movie in general, how are we feeling?
Do you think it's a deserving nominee? Underrated gem? A disappointing bore? Very curious to see.
Personally, I adore the film and hold it as one of my favourites of the decade and was very happy it just got in. It wouldn't have necessarily been my pick, I think I would've chosen Power of the Dog and Drive My Car over it, but Nightmare Alley is a close choice. A beautiful, melancholic score, gorgeous and classic visuals with hypnotic camera movements, my favourite Cooper performance, brilliant pacing, great production and costume and an intriguing classic noir story that's both incredibly exciting and psychological, but surprisingly emotional and gutsy. Especially with that ending. So thematically rich as well.
I wish this was a bigger box office success.
Let me know your thoughts and how the movie has aged in general! :)
