How to make a pony OC without being cringe?

When I was young I LOVED MLP. I even made an Alicorn OC. However I have no drawing talent and things from my head look cringe. What's a way I can make an OC? Or at least a guide on drawing ponies. (Even if it's not a pony race. For example the Keiren(?) are cool)
