Know its been discussed, but wanted to open the conversation again. Most satisfying level up/progression computer games that scratch the litrpg/progression itch for you!

I just started reading Ripple System: Shadeslinger, and im finding its really scratching the early level progression itch that i love.. HWFWM did it also, that early excitement of discovering the game world, and the substantial excitement of level ups that bring new skills, spells, and gear.

The only game I've ever really played that really scratched that itch for me was old school Everquest. I remember the excitement of hitting a new level as a Necromancer/Shadowknight/etc, and going to have to make the journeys necessary to find your new spells that all brought a sense of real progress. It wasnt always just higher damage versions of the same spells, it could be fundamentally new spells that could change your strategy as new avenues were opened. It wasnt just the 'boom, youre a new level, heres some stat points and a bunch of new spells' , it was that it opened access to new spells that you then typically needed to quest a bit to fill out. Grinding for enough plat to afford that 20p fear spell, or new DoT/lifetap, or being forced to travel zones to find a merchant that sold it. In fact, reading Shadeslinger is making me think the author HAD to have played an old school Everquest necromancer because so far into book one, that feels like how the class is shaping out, but i'm still really early in the book)

Even the gear upgrades felt substantial. Going from that copper chest piece to a dropped breastplate that also had a stat boost! The gear and the spell/skill upgrades felt so purposeful, and the levels creating new adventures of their own to track down and flesh out your abilities.

Ive been reading up on what people think scratch this itch for them. PoE, Skyrim, Pathfinder, etc. OSRS, etc

For me, Everquest created a unique and exciting sense of progress and advancement that i just havent been able to find with any other game. Where new gear felt impactful, and not just a damage update (WoW for example left me so disenfranchised with gear upgrades that i barely noticed them there)

What game for you gives you that excitement of progress where you look forward to what the levels unlock, and it doesnt just feel like a grind to Max level?

Anything new come out thats worth mentioning?

Monsters and Memories by some of the old EQ guys does really stress tests, and im loving how the game is fleshing out and feels so far.

Just wanted to chat about it and get people's thoughts.

Thanks!
