First snow in Kansas. I have safety questions
ETA: I just want to say how amazing and nice everyone is being. I’ve lived all over and can truly say that midwestern people are the nicest. I was so worried I’d be blamed for my car, or talked down to because of my inexperience, but I’ve gotten nothing but such nice comments full of actual supportive information. I appreciate you all more than you can know!
Hi,
So I (31f) was born in eastern Kansas, but left the state at 12 so I never learned to drive in this weather. I’ve lived all over the country, but once I came of age to drive I lived in Southern California and then Australia and then Houston, TX so I have never driven in snow. I did a small test drive today but the roads were already plowed. I also drive a Camaro and it’s my only way of transportation. I live in Topeka but work in Lawrence so I take the tolls to get there. Here are some questions for y’all: 1. How do I know if there’s black ice? (I’ve heard this term used often and it’s scaring me) 2. When the roads are plowed how fast are you supposed to drive? I was going under the speed limit posted. 3. I leave for work around 6 in the morning, when do they usually start plowing? 4. If I do have to drive to work before they plow the roads, what should I be concerned with?
