Harassed while cycling in Japan – Can I take legal action?
Hey everyone, this is my first-ever Reddit post, so please be kind.
Three days ago, I was harassed while riding my bike on the road. A car started tailgating me aggressively, so I pulled over, thinking the driver wanted to talk to me. As soon as he got out, he started filming me and shouting that I was a “f***ing foreigner” who doesn’t know Japanese laws and that I shouldn’t be cycling on the road. He also said that Japanese people are kind, unlike people from my country.(he doesn’t know where I’m from btw)
I told him to stop filming and insulting me, but he threatened to call the police before driving off. Luckily, I managed to take a photo of his license plate before he left. The guy looked to be around 35 years old, and I believe he lives in my neighborhood because I saw his car parked about 300 meters from my place yesterday.
I wanted to ask: Is there anything I can do legally about this racist harassment? Can I report it to the police?
Thanks for any advice.
