Run-up idle check engine died - CFI says that’s normal

Plane: C172M

While doing my run-up the engine died on the idle check. I tried with and without carb heat. Still died. I taxied back to the ramp and squawked it. My CFI said this happens to him quite often.

I just don’t feel comfortable ignoring run-up items like this. Did I do the right thing? =P
