[anime] can someone explain kinana to me?

Where does she come from. I understand she was the snake and everything but all of a sudden she’s just in the guild working. Why was she a snake? When and how did she change back? Was she a girl then snake then girl or just snake then girl? How is she at fairy tail? I don’t know if it’s touched more in the manga but it just feels so random and out of nowhere.
