Raising kids in New York versus São Paulo

Hi everyone! My partner and I are looking to start trying to have kids next year. He's Brazilian (not from São Paulo though) and I'm from NY (partly raised in Colombia). We met in London and moved to São Paulo a couple of years ago. We are now considering a move back to NY but the kids situation makes us doubt it. I was raised there so know how amazing the city can be (museums, sledding in Central Park, safety, diversity, so much of everything) but also know its downsides (can be pretty rough/jading, gun violence in schools, drugs from an early age, US can be very polarizing and put you into boxes) and that São Paulo has some great upsides (greater sense of community, closer to family, beach 2 hours away, ability to pay for help/nannies, it's a city that also offers a lot although never to NY levels) but also downsides (less diversity, safety is a huge concern, far away from other parts of the world, more conservative mindset than NY).

In terms of money/work opportunities, we don't have family money but have managed to build pretty successful careers, so would have a pretty great salary in Brazil (basically US levels but in Brazil) and a pretty good salary in NY (combined 400k approx). Also, my kids will have the US passport regardless of where they're born since I'm American. Anyone have any insights on where might be better to raise kids, both for the kids + us as a family/couple? Thanks!
