What is a good introduction to X-Men Comics/Mutants?
Little backstory:
Growing up my dad would let me watch old recordings of the original X-Men Animated series. I would also grow up with the whole MCU, and have that be the majority of Marvel content I consumed. However later on, I would be able to watch the "whole" x-men series on Disney+, then X-Men 97. While the MCU has been the one I've been most exposed to, X-men and mutants has always been special and intriguing to me.
The question:
I'm a writer that has been given the chance to write a comic book character that has powers similar to mutants. I want to have a better understanding of the conflict mutants have with people and how mutants see themselves. While the movies are great, what is a great comic issue/series/novel that touches on this in the most interesting way?
Note:
I'm fairly versed in some characters backstory within X-men series and a couple of niche characters. However, I am still new to comics and would prefer a recommendation that is more beginner friendly in terms of lore.
Thanks.
