Samsung Jet 95 Complete - average user review
As the title says, just an average user's review. I wished something like this was out there when I was deciding on what to buy, so I hope I will constructively contribute to the internet.
Disclaimer: I never understood why this sub was so hostile towards cordless vacuums. Any half-brained person already understands that a 1000W+ machine will vacuum way better than any battery powered machine. Repeating yourself is not needed. I extend that message and re-iterate that a cordless, no matter how good and expensive it is, will NEVER vacuum as good as a corded one. It's physics! People do not buy cordless to replace their canister/bagged and get the same cleaning performance. They buy them for convenience and know that they will end up with dusty corners and deep dust in carpets if they only stick to using their cordless. And that's their choice. So please do not comment about getting a caniester vacuum. We all know it.
So, if you are like I was, stuck between paying extra for a Dyson or settling for a Samsung, then maybe this will help you. Bare in mind that I have never used a Dyson, so this is stricly about using a Jet 95 (same machine as Jet 85 and slightly stronger than Jet 75). I can only compare it to a bagged 1800W Panasonic (that thing is from 2010 and still a beast, its only issue is it's weight) and another cheap cordless.
Our house: 110 m2 covered in 80% laminate, 10% tiles, 10% carpets (short pile and high pile). Also wooden stairs.
Pets: downstairs a shedding, short hair dog, upstairs a shedding short hair cat. The cat's hair is very thin and sticks to clothes/furniture/carpets easily. The dog's hair is thicker and generally it can be shaken off your clothes. The dog brings in dust on his paws from outside and the cat sometimes drags litter sand around the room. So generally, the dirt in our house is a mix of hair/dust/sand. A mix of small to medium particles.
Design:
- The main unit feels good. It looks sleek and the place where you hold your hand also feels pleasant. It's not as light as all online comparisons makes it out to be; say you just dust around with it (so no pipe attached) your hand can get tired fairly fast and you do not have so much precision due to its size. Easy fix, hold it with 2 hands. All included motorsized brushes are nice, but the other attachments are pretty cheap feeling, specially the dusting attachment, that has very soft bristles. Stand is nice though, but unlike Jet 90, it no longer has the space to charge a 2nd battery. All together, the Jet 95 complete is nice due to its stand, it all stores away neatly.
- The advertised 0.8 L of dust capacity isn't really a big advantage, say to a Dyson V12. It fills up quickly and emptying isn't as much of a hustle as the internet makes it out to be, but still an extra step. If I vacuum the carper, I need to empty the bin before moving on further.
- Also, perhaps someone can chip in: Do you know how things rotate around the bin as you suck them up. Say you are vacuuming hair (animal) and it becomes a clump of hair and dust, this usually gets stuck at the buttom and will stop everything from spinning: Does this ruin the filtering system? Or are the cyclones unaffected by the main cyclone stopping? I attribuited this to the diameter of the dust bin. Despite that its 0.8 L vs 0.77 L for the V11, it still looks narrower.
Motorized brushes:
- Jet Dual Brush: amazing at carpet work. Sucked so much crap from our high pile carpet and completely cleared the cat hair from short pile carpet. One issue on the high pile carpet, it can get stuck on the long treads. This then makes the brush stop (to protect it from damage I guess) and even if you pull it away from the carpet and get it unstuck it does not just start up again, you need to restart the vacuum. Minor 1st world problem. The way I get around it is by keeping momentum in my sweeps. Would love to hear if Dyson has the same issue with its carpet brush.
- Slim LED Brush: This is pure perfection on hard floors. I doubt you will find a normal user application where this will not work for you. The only issue with it, it cannot get into the floor/wall connection/corner. So that 0.5 cm near the wall, will never be properly vacuumed. Turning the power up to JET helps, but nothing like a bagged vacuum (WITH 1800W of power, so comparing appels to jack fruits over here).
- Pet Tool+: So far this works, but it's a pain in the butt. It easily catches the material of my sofa. I have to use it at a very specific angle and like the carpet tool, I need to keep momentum. I managed to clean the sofa with it, but frankly it wasn't easier than with a bagged vacuum, so the point about convenience drops here. Also it cannot get into corners, even less than the Jet Dual Brush; 1-2 cm. Curious to know if the Dyson pet tool is the same. Lastly, I cleared a battery just vacuuming the couch.
Battery (I will round up/down here. All times with motorized brushes):
- Low: 40 min. Power level is good enough only for hard floors with limited dust
- Mid: 25 min. Good for all applications. You might have to go over stuburn spots twice
- Max: 10 min. Good for all applications. Helps to run it shortly in stuburn places
- Jet: 5-7 min. Max power for short bursts.
- So for a total of 110 m2, there is no way I can vacuum the whole house on one charge. It's impossible, specially with 2 flights of stairs. On one charge, I can however, complete a 50 m2 living room + hallway that has carpets, 2 flight of stairs and some minor work in the bedrooms. This is if I rush a bit. If I want to take my time, then only the living room, hallway and stairs, leaving the bedrooms untouched. Long story short, unless you live in a 1 bedroom appartment, you will not get your house done in one go, on one battery. No way.
Overall:
- The general online concensus is that Dyson is better. I believe that. They have more cyclones, which I would attribute to better fine particle filtration, they've been longer in the business so its only normal for them to be more advanced in the technology. However, Samsung gets a close 2nd.
- I think if you can live without the laser and if you get a deal with a considerable price difference 150-200+ EUR/Dollars, go for the Samsung. I think if the price difference is just 100 EUR/dollars, buy the Dyson.
- If you have carpets, ensure to get both the Jet Dual Brush and the Slim LED Brush model. The Slim LED Brush is useless on carpets.
- FINALLY, it's an alright machine, but it was far from blowing me away. If I have to compare it to a cheap cordless (~150 EUR): (1) on hardfloors they are comparable, (2) on carpets Jet 95 kicks its ass (3) on versitily Jet 95 also kicks its butt. However, the cheap one did not have a cyclone system, so despite washing the filters and maintaining it, its suction is considerably weaker (Low setting on the Jet 95) than in the first year of usage. Its yet to be seen if the Jet 95 can keep up.
Conclusion: if you will pay full price for the Jet 95 DO NOT buy it. If you score a deal where it's considerably (150-200 EUR dollars) cheaper than Dyson V11/V12/V15 BUY IT. Else, buy one of the Dysons. This is mostly due to cheap feeling attachments and relatively short battery life. Cleaning performance wise, it is very good for a cordless and besides corner cleaning (with the motorised brushes) and deep carpet suction, it has beaten my bagged vacuum.

PS: I scored my JET 95 Complete for 380 EUR. Dyson v15 total clean (similar accesories minus stand) was 600 and out of stock, so I could not justify the wait of the 50% extra price. Curious what bargain chaisers think of the tradeoff.
