I used to be funny
Edit: Light spoilers
I haven’t seen a single post about this movie since it went on streaming, but wow, must talk about it.
There’s something about this new age of actors and film makers, they can really capture the epitome of being 20 something and just getting your ass kicked by life. That’s why I really love this new era of film and television, and Rachel Sennott kills it every time, so I wasn’t surprised that I enjoyed this movie so much.
I actually bawled at the end, both times I watched it, but this second time around, it’s really sticking with me.
I love how you can feel for both of the characters, the entire way through the movie. You can root for Brooke and Sam at the same time. I liked even more that the movie wasn’t about the trial and whether or not he was going to be convicted, but rather we knew he was going away the whole time. Instead there was a focus on Sam’s healing journey and her and Brooke’s relationship. No savior boyfriend, Brooke’s aunt believed Sam the whole time, Cameron wasn’t let off because he was a police officer, etc. As someone who has been SA’d in the past, this was really cool to see. It was almost healing in a way.
Overall, the friendships in the movie were beautiful, Brooke and Sam’s relationship was heartwarming, and I very much enjoyed the comedic relief throughout. Like I said earlier, I’m a huge fan of Rachel Sennott and comedy in general, so the stand up storyline was the cherry on top.
If anyone has watched this movie, please drop your thoughts below! I don’t know anyone who has seen this movie, so I haven’t been able to talk about it with anyone.
