DAE struggle with identifying basic bodily needs?
Due to a lot of things being restricted or withheld from me when I was younger (food and bathroom usage mostly) I kind of shut down the parts of me that experience hunger, thirst, and needing to use the bathroom. Nowadays I can sort of recognise hunger again (so long as I'm not stressed out, when I'm stressed it leaves again) but thirst and bathroom are still a little beyond me - to the point of kidney damage and recurrent UTIs.
Has anyone else just straight up stopped being able to feel or understand bodily signals like this? How do you explain to medical professionals why it's so hard to eat enough or drink water or use the bathroom when you need to?
