Keep hearing about how we need more trades workers over the past few years and I’m so fucking sick of it. Blue collar workers make less money than someone with a bachelors degree on average, and they’re way less pleasant to be around because they haven’t gotten the same experiences that a college grad does. Think of all the racism, sexism, and other shit that goes on in those shops and how that wouldn’t be tolerated in a white collar setting. This is an industry that leads industries in criminal convictions, DUIs, domestic violence, etc. Most larger construction companies don’t even check for criminal records because all their employees would fail.
Yes, you probably did go into the trades because you couldn’t hack it in high school. Yes, people in white collar professions do know better than you on most things. There’s a reason you don’t see former construction workers and welders being elected to national office.
