I forgot to turn on my “customer service voice” when talking with a parent
This is my first year teaching and I have yet to master all the subtle arts of the profession. Today a girl refused to give me a toy she had brought to class and it resulted in like five minutes of backtalk. I mentioned it to the mother. Specifically I said, “If you could talk to your daughter about the arguing, I’d really appreciate it. It’s wasting time in class and it’s starting to annoy me.”
Oops. Did not realize that we are not allowed to use the word “annoy.” I smoothed it over but… oof.
