Is the steam deck more durable and reliable in the long term run than a gaming laptop?

I've noticed my friend's gaming laptop only lasted for a year and he took care of it very carefully and it broke down within a year. I was wondering if the steam deck is more durable than a gaming laptop? Because my father is considering to buy a steam deck than a gaming laptop, he said he'd rather have a more durable device in exchange of performance. Is it true that the steam deck has a longer lifespan than your usual gaming laptop?
