laser systems, dry firing, Are they actually good for dialing in an optic?

I've got a few 9mm ones that go right in the chamber, one is a constant on and not meant for dry-fire, the others have caps , so they can be used for dry fire. What I found though, is while they appear to be zero'd when doing dry fire with cameras, is that they are off significantly at the range. I thought since they sat centered in the barrel, that the LED should be fairly close. if I'm matching the red dot up to them, but again it took a few serious adjustments to get center mass hits at the range.

Wondered if I put too much faith in the home training using them and too much into using them to zero my optics, and/or am I just shitty at shooting and need my optic out of whack to hit what I'm aiming out? :)
