Pros and cons for tankless water heaters

Our water heater just developed a leak. Fortunately we had a water alarm set up after the last time this happened, which damaged our flooring inside the house. It’s a gas heater and I’m assuming it will need to be replaced. Should I consider a tankless heater for the replacement? What are the pros and cons?
