ADHD parents SOS

My 8 year old has had a pretty rough school year, we recently requested his medication again (new insurance-new provider) & also requested a screening for autism. He’s also a bit underweight & they will want to test for diabetes type 1 before starting new meds anyways. That was almost a month ago, no new updates from the doc besides the pending referral.

All of his teachers are having a hard time getting him to stay quiet and follow directions, we encourage our son to behave and place consequences for bad behavior. Not sure how else to help him in the classroom, we normally manage well at home and other social gatherings. Teachers mentioned having to send him to the office everyday, he’s missing recess, excluded from extracurricular activities & classroom parties to catch up on homework, I’ve even kept him home on field trip days because I know they won’t be able to manage him and 20+ other students. He has an IEP in place but not sure it’s really helping. My son says his classmates hate him and he dreads school now, I can tell he feels bad about everything. He’s not hitting or being mean to anyone. He just has loud outbursts and very short attention span.

Any advice from parents who’ve dealt with this before?
