Why Does Nigeria Have Oil, Yet Fuel Is Still Expensive?
Nigeria is one of the largest oil producers in Africa, yet we’ve struggled with fuel scarcity and high prices for decades. We finally fixed the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, but we still rely heavily on imported fuel.
Why?
Most oil-rich countries refine their own crude and keep fuel prices low. But in Nigeria, foreign companies (Shell, Chevron, etc.) control a huge part of our oil industry, and we still import refined petrol at higher prices. Even with the Dangote refinery, Nigerians are still paying more.
If we have refineries working now, why hasn’t fuel become cheaper? Who really benefits from keeping Nigeria dependent on imported fuel?
