Safety in the Netherlands

With the recent and terrible news about grooming gangs in the UK, terror attacks in Germany and the US, etc., how can we better protect ourselves from the monstrosity that we are currently facing right now? Yesterday I had some errands in Amsterdam and I felt uneasy going to busy places. Perhaps I am just overthinking with all the news circulating online but I wonder how other people feel about their safety..
