New DisplayPad user: I am extremely disappointed.

UPDATE: Feel free to read this, but check out the edit at the bottom as well. The grievances were real but may have been resolved in the following months.

----------ORIGINAL------------

Just putting my new user experience here: This is by far the worst proprietary software I've ever had the displeasure of using.

It repeatedly deletes my profile between PC shutdown and reboots, and every time it does this, it then absolutely fails to detect my DisplayPad that is connected to my PC for an indeterminate amount of time. The only "solution" that has seemed to show any promise is to fully uninstall and re-install the BaseCamp software. My PC is detecting the hardware just fine, the DisplayPad itself pops up with the stupid macro that directs you to the website to download the software, but the software does not detect the displaypad no matter what I do.

I am shocked at how thoroughly this software has failed me in less than 3 days of attempted use. I will almost certainly be returning/refunding the DisplayPad and leaving a 1 or 2 star review based on the software alone. It's a terrible shame, because I love the look and feel of the device, and when it was working the first several hours I was using it, it felt pretty good to use. I thought I had found a good alternative to the overpriced StreamDeck. But no, I guess you get what you pay for, and the otherwise spectacular build quality of the device is more than ruined by the unusable software that it is forced to interface with.

The build quality of the physical DisplayPad feels amazing, and when the device actually works it mostly does what I need it to do. The support for profiles and macros is VERY limited, and the fact that it cannot handle opening certain programs at all is a problem, but for the significantly lower price I was willing to do some janky work-arounds to get everything to function how I wanted it to.

Unfortunately, you are REQUIRED to use the god-awful BaseCamp software in order to run the DisplayPad. And the software is SO abysmal that it's just not worth it. After randomly losing hours of configuration TWICE due to something as simple as a computer restart, I am absolutely stunned that there are no solutions and no workarounds that let me avoid this horrific software.

Mountain: You NEED to get your software package together. This is absolutely unacceptable. If you can't make BaseCamp function properly with the DisplayPad, then at least give us, the consumers, access to some form of alternative by giving us some kind of technical look at how to interface with the device. As a professional dev, I would prefer to develop my own software from scratch rather than be forced to use what currently exists.

EDIT/UPDATE: I never did finish the return process that I initiated, so I've been "stuck" with the DisplayPad for the last 5 months. That said, as of today, the software actually seems to be behaving in an acceptable way for now.

I bought a new PC recently, which is running Windows 11 (not 10 like my previous rig). I don't know if it's because of software updates, or if it's because of the operating system, or some other factor, but the software actually is working much better now than it ever did before. I will update again if things start to misbehave, but I just wanted to give credit where credit was due. I would be perfectly content and happy with my purchase if it continues to work like it is for me right now, despite the rocky start.
