Medical Emergency - HELP

Medical Emergency - HELP.

I’m a US citizen currently in Japan. I arrived here a bit under a month ago and this has been an absolute nightmare.

About 10 days ago I started experiencing severe abdominal pain and nausea. About 2 months ago I was diagnosed with kidney stones in the US and this pain matched that. I soon developed a fever. After about 3 days I called an ambulance and was taken to a hospital.

After being given pain meds and antibiotics, as well as a CT scan, they simply reconfirmed that I do indeed have kidney stones.

They wanted to charge me over 160,000 yen for this visit - my bank said “hell no” to those charges — the hospital ultimately just let me leave without paying. I presume they’re going to send a bill to my house at some point as they have all of my information, but that’s not really a concern of mine.

Problem is, it’s now been a week and I’m still in extremely intense pain. I don’t have a thermometer but I sense that I might still have a fever, and I feel absolutely horrible right now.

I really would like to go back to a hospital because I think something is seriously wrong, but I’m worried about both the existing balance as well as being charged even more. I am not in a position to comfortably pay thousands of dollars up front.

I’m in so much pain I don’t think I could fly home or go anywhere - I cancelled my ticket to Europe (I had a very long trip planned) and got myself another room for the next 30 days or so, because I’m in absolutely no condition to be flying. I am starting ti get really scared and I genuinely have no idea what to do.

To make matters worse, not that it matters much, I’m also trans! I worry how this will go over during an extended hospital stay…. and with the American political situation I wonder if the embassy would be of much assistance. (Pre op, all documents including passport updated and do not match my physical hardware) suffice to say, I feel pretty fucked right now.

I need advice. Please.
