Save Iowa Tax Payers 90%
Now that Iowa government officials are publicly supporting DOGE, why not reduce the cost of Iowa’s bureaucracy. I’m no mathematician but reapportionment of the state into fewer counties and removing “redundant government positions” seems like an incredibly obvious way to save tax payers money. Instead of geographic features utilize population sizes by region.
I’m sure the politicians would rail against this simply to keep their grift going. As an Iowan think about actually having infrastructure maintained. Potholes are fixed in my town in a relatively quick fashion because there are now enough funds because we quit paying for 49 duplicate county level officials. Assuming a modest reduction of nearly half of all counties? Will there be a loss of essential services in some areas, of course.
Since the state is sitting on billions of dollars in surplus they should consider buying out homeowners in lower populated areas to allow them to move to areas with better funded service. Kim should do it via executive order like her on-again, off-again bf Trump.
Maybe some brave state representatives could ban together and update the legal definition of an incorporated county in the state to have a minimum population. People can take buyouts or get eminent domained or left with reduced levels of service if they are a certain distance away from the counties higher population density areas.
Hopefully less than half doesn’t seem like a large enough reduction of waste. Let’s DOGE it up, 10x style and only have 9-10 counties!
