Spending Locally and Ethically. Where to Go, Where to Avoid?

I'd like to limit how much I'm spending at large chains or problematic local businesses, especially those that support any of the hateful lot in Tallahassee or DC.

As such, what are some small local businesses we should support and which businesses should we boycott? I know the goods unite us app is helpful for this kind of info, but what about businesses that aren't on there?
