Character rankings before and after being added to FEH

Glossary: CYL Group: The New Heroes added to the game between CYLs (excluding alts of characters already in as New Heroes in previous CYL Groups).
CYL Group 1: All New Heroes added between Choose Your Legends 1 and Choose Your Legends 2
CYL Group 2: All New Heroes added between Choose Your Legends 2 and Choose Your Legends 2
Etc.

Okay so this is an ongoing project I've been working on for a few years now. I've been tracking what each character ranked at the CYL before they were added and every subsequent CYL afterwards. (google sheets link)

There's been a few interesting patterns that have emerged. Firstly nearly every character added in between CYLs has dropped placements in the following CYL with some exceptions, in fact there has not been a CYL Group (all New Heroes added between two CYLs) that has on average done better the CYL after getting added. The CYL Group that did lost the least amount of placements was actually CYL1, it only lost 20.34 spots on average. Meanwhile CYL3 did the worst, losing 152.59 spots on average. It does make sense that CYL1 would be the outlier, as that CYL Group has the largest sample size with 172 characters added as New Heroes between CYL1 and CYL2 due to being the launch group.

Now some other interesting notes for CYL Group 8 (all characters added as New Heroes between CYL8 and CYL9). On average CYL Group 8 lost only 63.59 spots in CYL9, which makes it the CYL Group that has lost the third least amount of spots after CYL Group 1 and CYL Group 2.

The largest loss of spots is Mozu who went from 142 in CYL 8 to 324 in CYL 9, losing 182 spots in the process. The largest gain of spots was Dorothea who went from 33 in CYL 8 to 20 in CYL 9.

Of the three Mythics added to the CYL ballot this year Fomortiis did the best, claiming 7th place overall and 4th place in the men's division. He's followed distantly by Ullr who took 301st place overall, and St. Elimine who took 333rd place overall.

Some interesting placements for the free book OCs as well. As of CYL9 Fjorm is still the most popular free book OC at 43 and Reginn is the least popular at 295. The full rankings are thus:

My own personal opinions aside (why is Eir so far down? My beloved who beat depression) it's nice to see Run isn't as disliked as I thought he would be. Reginn being last also doesn't surprise me, she doesn't have a lot going for her that IS is willing to capitalize on. I'm also pleasantly surprised to see Ash still so high up in this list, I was afraid she was going to have a much worse placement since we haven't gotten much about her since her book ended, but it looks like people still like her and are possibly even looking forward to her TT+ story this summer.

My next data analysis I plan on doing is characters receiving alts and how that affects their placement in CYL. Keep an eye out for that in the next week sometime. And give me your thoughts on this, I find it immensely fascinating to look at this kind of data.
