Risks of Fire / Thermal Runaway

Hi All,

I'm on my 4th day with the 3V 3 SE 😊. I'm also new to 3D printing so would love to tap into some thoughts.

I'm looking at building an enclosure given the printer needs to live in my garage at the moment. I see almost nothing but wood and plexiglass enclosures, so this confuses me given that I understand there is some risk of fire..... or am I wrong about this? Is there perhaps just a technical risk, but not a significant likely risk? I know that some printers have thermal runaway protection, but I also can't find any information around whether this printer does and how much that would decrease risk.

Finally, I'd be curios to hear if any of you have founds one good solutions for an enclosure. I've bene looking at the possibility of using a network cabinet - made out of metal and of often comes with fans, so would need just a bit of tweaking. cost is certainly a consideration so I'd be happy to build my own, but want to see keep things safe if I need to?

Thank you all!!

Al
