What DTI opinion would have you like this?
Mine is that there’s no such thing as ‘fair’ voting, we’re never gonna get it, and I have yet to see a single good idea for ways to implement it despite seeing like 1000 ideas for how to implement it.
The reason I think fair voting doesn’t exist (although unfair voting definitely does) is because everything is opinion based. You can be a top model with IRL fashion expertise and put together an objectively gorgeous outfit and someone out there could still find it ugly because it just doesn’t appeal to their personal tastes. And even if most people would give you five stars for the fit, that person might give you two, but that doesn’t mean they voted you unfairly, it just means they thought your fit was worth two stars.
I get that people’s main issue with unfair voting is that kids vote low stars or don’t vote at all because they think it’ll help them get podium which does suck but every idea I’ve seen to implement fair voting has just been more or less to reveal how everyone voted or penalize people for not voting a certain amount of stars or voting at all during rounds, etc.
Both of which would just lead to a bunch of mess. Showing how people vote will just lead to kids bullying and harassing each other or prettily reporting each other, etc. It may lead to people voting the outfits higher to avoid seeming mean, but how’s it ‘fair’ voting if people feel pressured to vote your outfit more stars than they would’ve if voting had still been anonymous?
How is it ‘fair’ voting if you’re penalized for not voting a certain amount of stars within a round? And trying to implement a rule where you’re penalized from playing the game if you don’t vote during rounds will just lead to a bunch of poor AFKs getting penalized for being AFK lol.
Even in 18+ servers (which I love) ‘fair’ voting is usually just ‘Vote everyone 2+ stars!’ But what if someone deserved 1 star? How’s it fair to have to vote them 2 stars in that case?
I’ve seen tons of other ideas and none of them count as fair voting either because they all involve inconveniencing and penalizing people who vote lower stars. People should vote fairly but sometimes your outfit isn’t worth more than one star if any at all in some people’s opinion and even if most wouldn’t agree with that opinion and would like your fit, that person is still entitled to their opinion.
I’m pretty generous with how I vote—I tend to give everyone 3+ but the fair voting convo kinda annoys me because a lot of people don’t want fair voting, they want higher voting requirements.
And while I’m at it, I’m just gonna say it—you’re not entitled to 4 or 5 stars just because you used custom makeup and layered your outfit to hell and back. If it’s ugly or not on theme IDC, you can still get voted 1 or 2 stars and that’s not inherently unfair.
I think it’d be nice if DTI gave a voting guide though. We have to remember that there are a lot of kids playing the game and they’d probably do a better job of voting with instructions—and a lot of adults would too. If DTI had an official guide that said ‘vote 5 stars if you think all outfits reach all these requirements, vote 1 star if you think the outfit reaches none of these requirements’ even that would probably cut down on unfair voting because then people wouldn’t have to come up with their own guidelines, which are bound to be super different from the next person’s.
Even with a guide I’m sure a lot of unfair voting would take place and it’s still opinion-based at the end of the day but that might help.
