Dog ripping up blankets left in crate overnight?

Hey everyone, looking for a bit of help here.

Our 8 month old pup will rip up any bed or blanket left in her crate overnight. During the day, she'll sleep on them no issues. We're working through training to leaving her alone, but obviously over night we kind of just have to.

Anyway, what I want to try is just taking out all the blankets & bedding and just letting her sleep on the hard floor of the crate. My wife on the other hand, is completely against this as she deems it cruel.

We've tried giving her a decoy blanket, which worked for a bit but last night she ripped up the "good" one instead.

Any ideas what we can try that might solve this, that doesn't involve getting rid of any sort of bedding completely? Or, give me solid reasoning backed with proof that I can show my wife to convince her to get rid of the bedding completely.

Thanks!
