Advice for College Freshman looking to break into REPE

Was wondering if anyone in the REPE space or anyone who is familiar with it could give career advice for a undergrad freshman starting out.

I am a freshman at Virginia Tech majoring in Real Estate & Finance and live and grew up within close proximity to New York City.

I am looking for advice on how someone like myself starting out can set themselves up to end up in REPE out of college preferably within New York City or Boston.

Next semester I am starting recruitment for what are competitive clubs and organizations within Virginia Tech and was wondering where to best focus my efforts alongside active participation in the Real Estate club.

-The investment banking group: includes a rigorous 12 week training process, deal simulations, behavioral prep and placements at top investment banks.

-COINS: a student managed commodity fund.

-SEED: $5m long only US equities portfolio student managed fund.

-BASIS: student managed $5m bond fund

-CREDIT: student run group at Virginia Tech that manages a $2 million portfolio of commercial bank loan participations.

-Design Build Competition Team: students are given a request for proposal focused on a design-build project. As part of the competition and training beforehand, they will work on a design, estimate, schedule, logistics, Green Building Practices, and more.

As of now I was thinking of focusing on the investment banking group and COINS but was wondering if my time should be better spent. I am also wondering if there are organizations outside of my university that might be helpful.

Lastly I am in the process of completing my REFM certifications and was curious what other certifications would help me stand out.

Any advice would be huge. Thank you!
