Left my truck in longterm parking at a hotel in NE Calgary near the airport and vandals drilled a hole in my fuel tank to steal the gasoline

As the title reads, I left my truck in longterm parking at a hotel in NE Calgary near the airport and vandals drilled a hole in the fuel tank to steal the gasoline. They could have just taken the fuel cap off and siphoned the gas. Why damage my truck and cost me time and money? Anyone else have this happen to them? The repair shop I spoke to said there's been a rash of fuel tanks in the NE having this happen to them. So frustrating.
