Cadillac Lyriq 2024 - check engine light (P2980) while driving
Hey everyone,
I’ve had my 2024 Cadillac Lyriq for about two weeks now and it’s already been in service two times for the same issue (P2980 and P1E00). Car is currently in service (for the last 4 days) and I still don't have a clear answer on when I will get it back. The dealer says they are waiting for the review of logs from the engineers in Detroit.
Issue:
The first time, I was driving to the dealer to pick up an all-weather floor mat when the check engine light (the car with a red exclamation point) came on while driving. I called OnStar and they provided the codes P2980 and P1E00. It was a Saturday, and the dealer had the car ready by Monday, but I couldn’t pick it up until Friday.
When I finally got the car back, on the way home, the same light came on with the same error codes. However, the error only seems to happen when I am driving, as after some minutes parked in the dealership, the error stopped showing up. note: I use one pedal driving (setting high).
Errors displayed in both cases were the:
P2980 (The Lithium-Ion Battery is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Onboard Charging System which manages your vehicle's battery pack charge level)
P1E00 (the Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Powertrain Controller requested Malfunction Indicator Lamp Illumination, please refer to codes from VICM)
Now, the car is still in service, but it feels like they’re not sure what the issue is. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their Lyriq? Any advice or insight would be appreciated, and thank you
TLDR: I’ve had my 2024 Cadillac Lyriq for two weeks, and it’s already been in service twice for the same issue (error codes P2980 and P1E00). The check engine light (car with red exclamation point) turned on while driving but disappeared when the car was parked at the dealership.
Update 10/17: They called me to pick up the Lyriq after 5 days in service. According to them, the engineers didn’t find anything specific and performed a reset on most of the car’s systems. The service rep mentioned that an update is coming to fix the error trigger, but it’s not available yet. He also said that if the error comes up again, I should contact them but assured me there is no need to worry and I could keep using the car (they tested the car driving, and charging it before returning it).
