LAN mode - remote print monitoring for free with OctoEverywhere - a two step guide
After taking my printer offline (guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1i4vp5i) following the firmware controversy I kept searching for a way to easily monitor my prints from my phone, when I'm away from home.
All I wanted was a webcam feed, and the ability to pause/stop the print if I saw something nasty. OctoEverywhere provides exactly this for free (right now they are pledging to keep the basic tier free forever: https://web.archive.org/web/20250130134221/https://octoeverywhere.com/supporter , https://archive.is/wW0I8 ). All you need is a machine on your home network that is turned on as long as the printer.
- Install OctoEverywhere on your network: they have a simple guide to get started: https://octoeverywhere.com/getstarted . I have a TrueNAS Scale server and I used their Docker image to setup a custom app (but I will probably create a community app for it).
- Install OctoEverywhere on your phone: on my phone I went to https://octoeverywhere.com/dashboard and added it to my home screen. You can also use 3rd party apps, however those are not included in the free tier (you get 14 days of premium trial when you sign up, but I don't have any intention of paying for it)
And just like that you have remote access to your printer at any time. It is not as handy as Bambu's app, and it relies on a third party, but for me it's a good compromise.
