Fox Kids 36 Early 90s Host Information
Extremely random memory from growing up in metro Atlanta in the 90s - did anyone watch Fox Kids 36 and remember, probably sometime in 1990-1992 they ran a promotion on their after school programming where the kids would choose the host. It was between a cool white guy who wore sunglasses and a flashy vest and a crotchety old lunch lady who maybe ran a boot camp and liked shouting. It seemed like the campaign lasted for months in my memory and somehow, even though I don't recall how to vote, the cool white guy in the sunglasses won. (thank god)
I think he had an ensemble of puppets and he'd pop up in the commercial breaks between shows and was generally fun. It was short lived though because one Friday he said he had a really big announcement and said he didn't want to do it any more, took his sunglasses off, which he had never done before, and walked off camera.
It was a really shocking thing for me at the time as a first or second grader. It was a peeling back of the glossy veneer of the world of television and seeing someone who was really hurting and not really knowing how I should think about it. I remember trying to work through it with a friend down the street who didn't watch it and didn't really care. That's basically where the memory ended.
Does anyone have have any recollection of this? Better yet does anyone have any video of this guy? I can't even remember his name.
