My 13 week old puppy basset hound got sick.
Hi everyone, I’m new to this group. I’m really hoping I can get some logical answers. I have two basset hounds one is two years old and the other is 13 weeks. We got him and everything was fine. He was an energetic puppy showed no signs of anything being wrong. The only thing I know was that he did have a very small umbilical hernia, but our vet wasn’t worried at all. We got him his first shots done as soon as the vet had time for us, which was January 2nd. His second set of shots were on February 1st. Along with his second set of shots we also got the second deworming done, and it was a pill form this time. Nothing seemed wrong at first he ate took the pill and then later that night got very sick he threw up multiple times but my partner and I didn’t feel concerned because we knew that if he had any worms, he would likely be puking. The next day, he didn’t puke however he didn’t eat. His energy level levels were off and he seemed very sad. February 4 rolls around and again he doesn’t really eat barely wanted water and was looking very slim. My partner tried to feed him some kibble and the smell of it made the Pup puke. At this point, I knew that the next day I would be booking a vet appointment. My partner was at work with the car, but I knew once he got home we would be taking him to the vet later that day at around 12 o’clock on February 4, the pup puked all over our bed and a lot of of it. There was some undigested food. The colour was a light brown, no blood, but it smelt foul. I looked up everything I could possibly look up and everything pointed to a blockage. When we went to the vet, we got blood done He got some fluid some amino drops, a shot to control the fever he had we also got a can of recovery food. After the vet and all of those things that were done, the puppy actually wanted to eat a little bit pooped and held down his water and food. Now today bloodwork came back from the vet and it seems that he has high white blood cells which can indicate an infection. My question is what kind of infection? I’ve read online that it can also be a sign of cancer and leukaemia and now I’m really scared. We were given clavamox and we are going to treat him for a little bit here, but if nothing works, the next step is ultrasound or x-rays. Does anybody have any advice?
