Does America's Constitutional Succession Work in the Middle As Well?

According to your Order of presidential succession, should, say, the secretary of the Interior be incapacitated and unable to carry out their duties, does the secretary of Agriculture automatically assume their duties or is there some procedure that must be followed -- and what would that be -- before this takes place? Or would it be an interim appointment until such time as a person is approved through the regular channels?
