Mysterious (ominous?) dates in "The Cradle of Centuries" chapter's Souvenir.
Hello everyone.
I just finished Requiem's NG+, and this time around I noticed some very odd dates on that Chapter's Souvenir ("Chateau d'Ombrage"). As a reminder, the Souvenir are those maps on a table on the periphery of the underground brazier puzzle.
The map in the centre, with "LACUNA" written on it, has the roman numerals "VII - MCMXII" below, which are written as "7 - 1912" in arabic numerals.
The "Gaule" map, with the Chateau d'Ombrage's sliding brazier puzzle and main courtyard on it -- this is Guyenne, or the setting for the first game -- has "VII - MCMXXII", or "7 - 1922". The map is to the right, on the ground.
However, the other map (on the left side of the table), which Sophia says has Africa, Constantinople, and Denmark, has "VI - MXIICM" on it. This is mostly likely a typo from the graphical artist(s); the first number is "6", but the second on is nonsense, it has no meaning. I would assume it is supposed to read "MCMXII", 1912.
Also, given that most people are not familiar with roman numerals and within the context of the 3rd map, I would not put past Asobo Studio that 1912 and 1922 are actually supposed to be the same date.
So, what does this all mean? The Justinian Plague occurred between 541 and 549, or DXLI - DXLIX; the Bubonic Plague happened between 1346 and 1353, or MCCCXLVI -MCCCLIII, with both Plague Tale games taking place in 1348-1349, or MCCCXLVIII - MCCCXLIX.
According to Wikipedia's List of Epidemics and Pandemics, there are no disease outbreaks in (or starting near) 1912 or 1922 (in Europe, at least); the closest to any of these dates is the 1919-1930 encephalitis lethargica epidemic, which was already established in France in 1922. There are also no documented plagues nowhere near th years 6 or 7.
Nothing matches here! The numbers are too far apart for it to be attributed to simple typos.
And then there is the issue with the secret ending; technologically, that takes place at some point from 1980 onwards, at the earliest.
Thoughts?
