Alien (1979) / The Mummy (1999) Double Feature!

AMC, re-released Alien and The Mummy for their 45th and 25th Anniversary, so I decided to see both in one night!

Alien (45th Anniversary)

Getting to experience Alien on the silver screen for the first time was enthralling. There must have been some sort of restoration made to the movie, given how good it looked and how old it was. Seeing the baby Alien rip through John Hurts chest in a theater full of people is definitely an experience all on it's own. My only gripe was they played a behind the scenes featurette with Ridley Scott at the beginning of the movie instead of the end, showing someone of the iconic scenes ahead of time.

Rating: 8/10

The Mummy (25th Anniversary)

I grew up watching The Mummy, it actually came out the year I was born. So seeing it in a theater for the first time was more nostalgic than anything. The CGI used in the film definitely doesn't live up to today's standards, but I could easily look past that! Also, by no means is Rachel Weisz and Brenden Fraisers love story any bit convincing, but boy was it cool seeing them in action again. Given the age of the film there is some stereotyping and jokes that did not age very well and definitely would not be acceptable in today's standards.

Rating: 8/10

Alien, shows that practical SFX stands the test of time over digital! The Mummy, looked more outdated than Alien, given the 20 year difference in the two!
